“Information Technology is our friend today, but it will be our enemy in the future.” The immense growth in technology during the past 200 years has radically increased the range and amount of human impact on the earth. Many people today don’t give much thought to the daily use of technology. We have become so dependent on technology that we have started losing critical thinking skills. Technology is a great tool and has advanced our capabilities in many professional fields. However, the question is, how much is too much? Research has shown that technology has considerably consumed an average American citizen’s time. We can argue that technology is helpful; however, the plan is to prove the impact of technology on society through research and references. In other words, we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of technology.
Information Technology
I believe that with every advantage technology brings us, a disadvantage also comes along. When we say Technology, the things that come to mind are gadgets, computers, machines, and robotics; however, the fact is that technology is everywhere around us. Without technology, we cannot watch movies and news, cook food, or listen to our favorite songs.
Moreover, technology affects our economy and influences the way we communicate with others worldwide. Skype, FaceTime, emailing, and text messaging allow us to communicate effortlessly with our friends and family around the world. Technology also allows countries to operate smoothly and helps them become economically stable.
Information Technology has now become an indispensable part of human lives, though its side effects can be devastating as well. Too much use of technology in inappropriate places can bring about more harm than good. It makes people extremely dependent and lazy. Moreover, the youth are using it for the wrong purpose, particularly on the internet.
It has ended people’s ability to use soft skills, like reading a book or conducting research using the library as a resource only. Research has proved that people spend more than 11 hours on the internet daily, and most use social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter or watch online videos.
The Internet has turned out to be the main cause of laziness in our younger generation. With the internet in hand, people have become extremely reliant. If we don’t know the answer to something, we just Google it and get the answer that has seized the people’s thinking power. This is one of the biggest disadvantages of technology.
